Round up your supplies and enter North St. Paul's Fifth Annual Harvest Moon Scarecrow Contest! Grab Uncle Jake's straw hat. . .Grandma's old dress. .even the dog's bandana - whatever it takes to make your scarecrow special. Are you a quilter? A gardener? How about a member of the football team? Gather a group of friends and show off your hobby! Traditional or unique, make your scarecrow the best in town. Fabulous prizes for both individuals and groups - all awarded after the Fall Round-Up Grande Parade. Join us or some harvest fun in North St. Paul! Scarecrows are a part of our folklore. From earliest times, people have been creating scary creatures in their own images to protect their crops and gardens. INVITATION: You are invited to submit a scarecrow for competition. Contest is open to any group, family, or individual regardless of age. Here is the chance for you, your class or youth group to create a scarecrow and compete for prizes, at the same time displaying your talents while delighting passersby along Seventh Avenue in Downtown North St. Paul. Your creative talents will be appreciated and recognized. SUGGESTED THEMES: This is a task for your creative imagination. You can make a traditional scarecrow, or get funky and fun. CONSTRUCTION: Entrants are responsible for bringing and installing their scarecrows. Each scarecrow must have a vertical support of wood for the body which will be wired to attach to a support for display. For best results, build your scarecrow so that it can withstand rain or wind. Straw will be available to complete stuffing. If you would like, the name of the entrant may be advertised as part of the scarecrow display. Select and post a name for your scarecrow that characterizes the theme and identifies its uniqueness. REGISTRATION: Fill out the application below, and mail it, or drop it off at the North Saint Paul Community Center. There is no Registration fee, but applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10. Once you are registered as an entrant, you will be assigned an official number and location. SET-UP: Scarecrows should be set up by contestants between Noon on Sunday, September 14 and completed by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, September 16. JUDGING: Judging will occur on Thursday, September 18 by a panel of three judges. WINNERS: Winners will be announced on Saturday, September 20 at the Main Stage after the Fall Round-Up Grande Parade. PRIZES: Three prizes will be awarded. First Prize is $100 in Buckaroos, Second Prize is $50 in Buckaroos, and third Prize is $25 in Buckaroos. PICK-UP: Persons wishing to save or retain their scarecrows should pick them up September 27 or 28. Scarecrows not claimed during this time will be removed in clean-up.
