FIRST ANNUAL PIE BAKING CONTEST

Slice of Summer 2008 will host its first-ever Pie-Baking Contest on Saturday, May 31, during the North Saint Paul Slice of Summer Festival. Pies must be homemade: All entries must be baked at home from scratch (no pre-mixes, canned fillings, commercial mixes, puddings, etc.).
The Homemade Pies will be on display starting at noon at the pie contest festival tent on Seventh Avenue.  Judging will begin at 12:15 p.m. Prizes will be awarded on overall appearance, crust, filling, and originality. 
There will be two separate divisions.

  • Youth (age 18 and under)
  • Adult

Winners will receive gift cards and other prizes.
Judges will evaluate based on the following criteria:

  • Overall appearance - 25 points
  • Crust (flavor, texture and aroma) - 25 points
  • Filling (flavor and consistency) - 25 points
  • Originality - 25 points

All entries must be accompanied by an entry form

  • Pies must be brought to the Pie-Contest tent for Slice of Summer by 12:00 Noon on the may 31.  The tent will be located on Seventh Avenue.
  • Judging will begin at 12:15 p.m.
  • All pies will become the property of Slice of Summer
  • All pies should be brought in disposable containers
  • All pies must be entered at room temperature
  • Pies must be baked in an 8-10 inch pie pan
  • Contest is open to everyone and each contestant can enter as many pies as they wish (a separate entry form must accompany each pie)
